After working in the beloved PostCS building for several years, it’s now time for The Next Web to move to another building. Not just some building though, as we’ll be based in the heart of Amsterdam - right between all the canals. It’s like growing up, first you’re based in a crappy though ubercool outskirt of the city, then you move to a more mature and luxurious place.

Anyway, today we’ll be a slow day for this blog, as I’ll be carrying boxes. To kill some time, you might want to check our former office at OfficeSnapShots or read the pizza post - and drown in the same sea of nostalgia as I did. Goodbye, funky office, hello canals.
I hope you like that post!

The Next Web Blog covers start-up news from all over the world (not just the Valley), exciting new technologies and inspiring entrepreneurs. If you're new here, you may want to read our '

Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten,
According to Technorati there are more than 120 million blogs, up from 100,000 in 2003. Starting a blog is easy but maintaining it is harder. Only 7 million are actively updated at least every 3 months.
“Technorati Authority is the number of blogs linking to a website in the last six months. The higher the number, the more Technorati Authority the blog has.”
As you know this blog is updated every day and 7 days a week since we officially launched on January 7, 2008 and it seems that we are doing a good job because today we entered the ‘top 5000′ of the most authoritative blogs in the world.
We still have a long way to go (our rank is Rank: 4,564 so there are still 4463 in front of us) until we make it to the top 100 blogs. But we can dream, right?
In the mean time keep sending us tips, placing comments and linking to us and don’t forget to subscribe to our RSS feed if you haven’t yet.
A few more statistics about thenextweb.org: 32000 unique visitors in the last 30 days spent and average of 2 minutes and 13 seconds per visit on our 558 posts. The most common way of visiting our site is via Google Reader and Netvibes. People came to our blog by searching for “the next web” (137), “htc diamond” (125) “next web” (115) “nico nico douga” (105), “olsen twins” (91), “nextweb” (83) and “something funny” (72).

In February we’re going to several cities in Europe to meet entrepreneurs, speakers and sponsors for The Next Web Conference.
It is kind of a road trip, but with a twist. We’re not only there for having chats and coffee, we will work there too. Last years Open Office trip to San Francisco was so much fun and we met a lot of interesting people while getting a lot of work done at offices of Plaxo, Yahoo Brickhouse, Mashery and MySQL, that we decided to do another trip, this time Geneva, Brussels, Paris and London are on our schedule.
For our trip we are looking for startups (or established companies) who have office space for us (a table, 3/4 chairs and a wifi connection is all we need) for one day. This is a nice way to meet new people and work at the same time. We will blog about the our tour on The Next Web conference page and we’ll post stories here as well (for sure).
The Agenda:
- Geneva, February 6,7 and 8 (We’re attending LIFT Conference. Get a 10% discount to this conference -use nextweb@lift as a discount code).
- Brussels, February 13
- Paris, February 14 and 15 (we’re attending OpenCoffee on the 15th)
- London, February 20 and 21st (we’re attending OpenCoffee on the 21st)
We have a tight budget, so we’ll be traveling cattle class and stay in cheap hotels (recommendations are welcome) or with friends. After my 16 euro a night hostel disaster in Munich last week, I’ve decided to upgrade to a real hotel during this trip.
For all cities we’re looking for a place to work and we will also set up a small party to grab a beer with and suggestions for venues are welcome.
So if you have suggestions and like to meet up with Boris, Ernst-Jan, Arjen, Babette and/or Patrick please get in touch or leave a comment.
I’ve checked out some potential startup offices in the different cities were we’d love to hang around work. Mobiya, DVDpost, Netvibes, Dailymotion, Wixi, Goojet, intruders AtlasVenture, Criteo, Piczo, Tunz, Wikio, Scoopeo, Vpod.tv, OpenAds, King.com, Joost, Moo Dopplr, and/or Last.fm
If you know more cool companies in these cities, please leave a comment too.
