VIDDIX: possible video revolution on its way

Video service VIDDIX - launched in beta today - found a great way to enrich your online video experience. They allow you to add web content to video, since it consists of two panels. The video is playing at the left, while different web content - such as slides, pictures, YouTube videos, HTML and Flash embeds - shows up in the so-called iPanel at the right. So imagine you interviewed Boris about the Next Web conference, it would look something like this:

VIDDIX

The guys from VIDDIX came up with their idea during their study Digital Communications. They graduated on VIDDIX and founded the company Invisios to bring their baby to the market. I hardly see any reasons why their project isn’t gonna be a huge hit. I mean, where YouTube and Slideshare end, VIDDIX is just about to get started. On top of that, the service will probably be really viral, since a lot of bloggers might be tempted to use VIDDIX for screencasts and presentations.

Although they might have to improve their embed function. Since the current one doesn’t bring over VIDDIX’s main advantage, namely the web content. I guess it has something to do with the thing in right bottom corner, yet I can’t figure out. Other from that, I foresee a bright future for VIDDIX.

I hope you like that post!

  1. Jul 17, 2008: Video interview with new service VIDDIX

[...] Hi! This is one of the first times you’ve visited my personal blog. Welcome! You may want to subscribe to my RSS feed to keep in touch. I look forward to your comments! Just wrote an article for The Next Web about VIDDIX, a new service that combines video and web content. Your video is playing at the left, while web content is popping up at the right. Where YouTube and Slideshare end, VIDDIX is just about to get started. Co-founder Sébastien Willems interviewed me to test his service. Unfortunately it’s in Dutch, so only you Dutchies out there are able to understand the interview. Don’t worry though, the service itself is way more important. I think it has the potential to become a big success. Read here why. [...]

This article seems more like you are helping a friend out rather than writing an objective account. Possible video revolution… please.

@1234 it is actually pretty cool. You can do a lot with it and it can be very useful for for instance presentations, reviews and a lot more.
Oh I must say, they are nice guys. But that is all what the disclaimer should say.

This should go really viral, the execution looks like it’s slick. It is the simple tool that is missing from the web and for presentations there is nothing like it. I give this a big thumbs up. Incidentally I made something like this a few years ago for property advertising, but it was for a niche site not an open platform.

I also made another site which for the art niche and again uses some similar ideas, albeit without the video add on.

I must say I really think this sort of thing is the way forward and I really wish you guys well with this idea. In all the time I have played on the edges, I never thought of doing the ‘obvious’ (people often claim it as obvious after the fact but we know it never is prior). 10 Marks.

    Great idea!
I am not sure if their business model is sound enough to make money, but it is a great service.

@1234gybotf, thanks for your comment. Sorry to hear that you think I’m helping out friends on this blog. What strikes me the most though, is that you aren’t enthusiastic about the idea of VIDDIX. Please enlighten us and share your doubts.

Looks like a really neat app! It wouldn’t surprise me if this is going to be the standard in video presentations, I’ll definitely give it a try in the very near future.

Well, the embedding at Frankwatching.com, where they did a demo, looks fine actually. But I guess that was a custom job or something. They use an overlay there (obviously needed since the player + content is pretty widescreeny).

    @ Ernst-Jan Pfauth,
Don’t get me wrong: there are merits to the technology. I just don’t think that the current state of the art represents a revolution in any way. I was on a project proposal meeting with some people from INSEAD this week, and I showcased them the VIDDIX technology. They were quite positive about it, and we might even consider inviting VIDDIX in some way to a European project we are preparing with INSEAD (2009 FP7 ICT Call 4: Intelligent Content and Semantics).

It was mainly the overenthusiastic tone and powerspeak in the article/title that upset me a bit. I have all RSS feeds from The Next Web coming in my reader, and I enjoy your posts, but I prefer to become enthusiastic (or not) myself, based on an objective account.

VIDDIX could have potential, but I don’t see it becoming a revolution in the current constellation (a blogger’s tool). So I’m agreeing with Edo’s point of view on this one:

    “Great idea!
I am not sure if their business model is sound enough to make money, but it is a great service.”
